Sebago, ME: Paul P. Guy, age 81, a retired firefghter for the City of Salem, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at Salem Hospital following a long illness. Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Isidore and Merilda (Pelletier) Guy.
In 1942, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Alaska and the USS Tuscaloosa. He later joined the Coast Guard and served at various lighthouse locations on the east coast, from Maine to Massachusetts, including the Cuckolds in Southport, ME and Bakers Island Light in Salem. In 1952, Paul joined the Salem Fire Department and was a firefighter until his retirement in 1979. Following his retirement from the department, he served as a Deputy Sheriff for Essex County for several years. He was active in Salem political circles and in the Salem Firefighters Local.
Paul moved to Maine 25 years ago where he loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid boating enthusiast who loved fishing, the outdoors and winter sports. He had a devilish sense of humor and loved doing his home improvement projects. He thoroughly enjoyed his yearly Abaco trips.
He is survived by a son: Jeffrey P. Guy and his wife Ann of Salem, a daughter Jane A. Guy of Salem, a brother Richard J. Guy of Salem, a sister Gertrude Driscoll of Danvers, 3 grandchildren: Jason Guy & his wife Sarah, Danielle Guy, Michelle Haidaczuk & her husband Sean. He is also survived by his girlfriend of 20 years, Patricia Frederick of Portland, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 8 brothers: George A., Bill, Roland J. Eugene, Leo, Gerard, Robert & Eugene “Bucky” Guy and 7 sisters: Lucy Fraser, Lillian G. Tessier, Rose D. Blais, Loretta Guy. Florence Cefalo, Cecile M. Beck & Irene Thomson.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at 9 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Salem at 10 am. Visiting hours: Friday 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Firefighters Relief Assoc., 48 Lafayette St., Salem, MA 01970.
