Ruth C. Downing, 68, passed away January 11 after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary downing of Weymouth.
Formerly of Weymouth, Ruth worked at Stop & shop for 45 years. During this period, she dedicated to caring for her mother. She moved to Osterville three years ago to enjoy her retirement.
Ruth enjoyed going to Dowses Beach in Osterville and spending time with her family. Animals had a special affection for her and she always surrounded herself with them. She filled her cottage with adored Hummel figurines.
Ruth loved Cape Cod and taking trips to Nantucket .She also took pleasure in going out to lunch and was particularly drawn to any restaurant with a view of the water.
Despite her painful fight against the cancer, Ruth was a constant beacon of hope and happiness for her family and friends.
She is survived by her sister Patricia Hayes of Osterville; many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Walter Downing and Barbara Drysdale
Her memorial service will be held Friday January 19th at 12:00 P.M. in the Our Lady of Assumption in Osterville. Burial will be private.
