New Bedford – Frank Costa, 81, of New Bedford died peacefully at home with his family on January 16, 2007. He was the former husband of Sharon (Heroux) Costa.
Mr. Costa was born in New Bedford, son of the late Manuel and Maria (Costa) Costa, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was employed for many years as a commercial fisherman on various local vessels after which he owned and operated 3 area restaurants. He went on to dispatch for Star Taxi until leaving due to illness. He enjoyed playing poker, the dog track and cooking.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Linda M. Whoriskey and her husband Richard and Stephanie J. Costa of New Bedford; 2 grandsons: Damon Pacheco and Dakota Whoriskey of New Bedford; his beloved friend: Nancy Purchase of New Bedford; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Diamantina Petras, Elsie Costa, Elvira Costa, Emily Cruz, Mamie Costa, John Costa and Manuel Costa.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 19, 2007, 5-8 P.M.
Funeral services will be private.
