DORAN - Of Braintree, formerly of Whitman, January 15th, Renee J. (DuPont) Doran, 79, a gracious and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. She was the wife of the late Joseph” Joe” Doran ; mother of Nancy (Doran) Walsh of Weymouth, Gerard Doran of Abington and Francis Doran and his wife Christina of Duxbury; grandmother of Marissa, Elizabeth and Robert Doran all of Duxbury. The only child of the late Roger and Pierrette (Mille) DuPont of Istres, France. she was born and raised in the Provence section of France. She met her husband Joe at the VE Day dance, held in Istres village square, which celebrated the end of WWII. Mr. Doran had been stationed at the airbase in Istres where he served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army – Air Corps.
Shortly After the war ended Mr. Doran proposed marriage and they were married at the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. News of Mrs. Doran’s charmed radiant beauty spread quickly throughout Whitman. Though Mr. Doran was an only child, over 600 townspeople filled the church to get a glimpse of the beautiful French war bridge the townspeople heard so much about. They lived in Whitman for over fifty years. Mrs. Doran’s life was centered around her family
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday January 19th in the Holy Ghost Church at 10:00 A.M.Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery Whitman, MA. Visiting hours omitted by request. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, Ma.
