Albert E. "Butch" "Big Al" Frates, Jr., 57, of Redwood City, formerly of New Bedford died October 9, 2002 unexpectedly at home.
He was the son of the late Margaret A. (Gifford) and Albert E. "Hap" Frates and step-son of Alice (Tremblay) Frates of Wareham.
Mr. Frates was born in New Bedford, Mass., and had lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to California 8 years ago.
He was formerly employed as a commerial fisherman.
Survivors include a son, Timothy Kruger of New Bedford; 3 brothers, William L. Frates and his wife Anne, of Connecticut, John M. "Jack" Frates and his wife Gerri, of Acushnet, Mass., and Peter F. Frates of Wareham, Mass.; 5 nieces and nephews, Crystal Wilcox, James Frates, Brian Frates, Christopher Frates and Happy Frates; and his cousins, Paul Dumas and Maxine Dumas, both of Redwood City.
