Marcella R. Fortin, 94, of Londonderry, NH died January 12, 2007 at Harborside Healthcare- Northwood in Bedford, NH. She was born in Louisville, KY on March 18, 1912, a daughter of the late George and Helen (Volpert) Becht. Raised in Louisville, she served as a WAVE in the Navy during World War II. Following the war, she made her home in the Lisbon/Lewiston, ME area. Mrs. Fortin was employed as a bookkeeper at Bonneau’s Supermarket in Lewiston. She moved to Londonderry to reside with a daughter and her family in 1981, following the death of her husband, Fernand P. Fortin the previous year. She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in Londonderry, and a member of the Londonderry Senior Citizens and the Daughters of Isabella. An adventuresome lady, she loved to travel.
Family members include one son, Brian Fortin of N. Caldwell, NJ; three daughters, Helen McArdle and her husband Kevin of Londonderry, Aurise Hughes of Nashua, NH and Phyllis Cote and her husband Emile of Sanford, ME; four grandchildren, Katie Pasternak, Brian McArdle, Matthew Cote and Mark Cote; also by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were on Wednesday, January 17th from 4 to 7 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM in St. Mark’s Church, corner of Mammoth Rd. and South Rd., Londonderry. Burial was in the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta, ME. .
