Charles Stacy Hoyt, 95 of Dover died on Wednesday January 10th after a brief illness at the River Bend Convalescent Center in South Natick. Born May 4, 1911, the son of Rollin and Lillian and brother of Arlene, in Somerville MA. He graduated from Watertown High School and Burdett Business College. Charles married Gladys McCormack on September 25, 1938 and they lived in Needham. Charles joined his father in the family business in Brighton, International Equipment Company. He was in charge of manufacturing. The company produced many types of machines used in the medical field, notably the centrifuge. In 1950 I.E.C. was instrumental with their centrifuges in helping Dr. Jonas Salk develop the Salk Vaccine for Polio. I.E.C. moved to Needham in 1962 and was later sold to Damon Research. In 1953 Charles and Gladys moved to a property in Dover which they named Springdale Farm. After retirement he enjoyed gardening, building and restoring furniture, listening to big band music, collecting antique cars, horses, going to the family cottage in Alton Bay, New Hampshire and driving his tractor. Springdale farm was the site of many equestrian events; shows, pony club and fox hunts. Many riders enjoyed the use of the property from neighborhood children to Olympians. Mr. Hoyt maintained the property himself; building several jumping courses, bush hogging the trails, even spreading manure. Mr. Hoyt sold the farm in 1996 after the passing of his wife Gladys, and moved to another residence in Dover. Until his passing Charles greatly enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the fall of 2002 Charles moved to River Bend Convalescent Center and resided there until his passing. He is survived by his son Bruce W. Hoyt and his wife Patricia, his daughter Deborah Banfield and her husband Robert, nephew Robert Dixon, grandchildren Michael Hoyt, Jeanine Lykourinos, Jacqueline Tomsik and Megan Chapman as well as great grandchildren Jacob and Allison Tomsik and Nikolaos and Pari Lykourinos.
