Lawrence, MA – Marjorie L. Sherman, 101, died Wednesday January 10,
2007 at the Berkeley Retirement Center.
Daughter of the late Frank A. and Louise L. Sherman.
Born April 3, 1905 at 22 Quincy Street Methuen, Massachusetts.
Miss Sherman attended Methuen schools and graduated in June of 1923 from Methuen High School.
She graduated from Smith College in 1927 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received her Master’s in Education from Calvin Coolidge College in 1953.
Miss Sherman began her teaching career in 1928, she retired in 1968 from Tenney High School and remained living in Methuen until 1989 when she moved over to the Berkeley Retirement Home. With the exception of her college years, she lived and worked her entire life within two miles of where she was born.
She was a former president of Lawrence College Club.
Marjorie was a member of the D.A.R., member and past president of the Lawrence Travelers club, and a member of the Lawrence Women’s Club.
She is survived by a cousin, Nancy Titcomb and her husband Ralph of East Sandwich, MA, and was a beloved “Cousin Marjorie” to their eight children and 21 grandchildren and Harold D. Ericksen of Evansville, Indiana.
Family members, friends from the Berkeley and former students and friends from her church the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Andover helped her celebrate her 100th birthday at a party in 2005. Marjorie received citations honoring her distinguished teaching career from then-Mayor Sharon M. Pollard, the Methuen School committee and Smith College.
A funeral service will take place on Sunday at 2 o’clock at the
Berkeley Retirement Center in Lawrence with burial on Tuesday in
Bellevue Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 P.M.- 2 P.M. at the Berkeley Retirement Center in Lawrence, Ma 150 Berkeley Street Lawrence.
