Fall River - Oliver L. “Roy” Durfee, 77, of Tiverton, RI, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at St. Anne’s Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret “Peg” (Grinnell) Durfee.
Born in Tiverton, son of the late Oliver L. and Loraine (Merithew) Durfee, he was a lifelong resident of Tiverton. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Durfee was the owner/operator of Durfee Sawmill in Tiverton. He built many wooden boats and also built and drove his own race car # 21. He was a member of the Tiverton Rod & Gun Club, the Eureka Lodge of Portsmouth, RI, the former O.E.S. Chapter 19 of Portsmouth, charter member of the RI Star Riders of Tiverton and was a former member of the I.O.O.F. Mr. Durfee served on the Town of Tiverton Board of Canvassers for many years, the Tiverton Harbor Commission, the Republican Town Committee and was a corder of wood for the Town on Tiverton. He was a bake master for clambakes and played the bass fiddle.
Including his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Jeannie-Mae Durfee-Escobar of Tiverton and Whitney J. Durfee of Tiverton; and 2 grandsons: Timothy Oliver Durfee and Jacob A. Durfee-Escobar.
He was brother of the late William M. Durfee.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
