Rita R. (Borges) Duarte, 79, of New Bedford died October 11, 2002 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of John M. Duarte,and daughter of the late August and Rose (Miranda) Borges.
Mrs. Duarte was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a communicant, active member and eucharistic minister at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Duarte was formerly employed by Madewell Manufacturing for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Bristol County Massachusetts Senior Action Committee, the Cape Verdean Retirees and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cape Verdean- American Veterans Association.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Allan J. Duarte, and his wife Irene, of New Bedford; a daughter, Patricia A. Duarte of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Kellie Ferreira, and her husband David, Robert Duarte, Allan Duarte, Jr. and Melinda Duarte; a great-granddaughter, Taira Blount; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Katie Riccardi and Matt Ferreira; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late John Borges, Anna DeGrace, Daniel Borges and Theresa Cravino.
