DRACUT - Thomas E. "Ed" McGovern, 77, a resident of Dracut, died peacefully January 7th at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband for 30 years of Patricia (Marden) (Hunt) McGovern.
He was born in the Mission Hill section of Boston on March 19, 1929, and was the son of the late Martin T. and Jane M. (Montgomery) McGovern. He received his education in Mission Hill schools.
Mr. McGovern served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the 114 Med Battalion 26thYD Army National Guard for 25 years.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a maintenance manager for 8 years by Waste Management in Londonderry, NH.
In his free time he enjoyed camping, and he became and avid golfer after his retirement.
He was a member of the Tyngsboro American Legion Post 247 and a member of the Tyngsboro Country Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law Thomas and Ellie McGovern, Martin and Paula McGovern, Paul and Leslie McGovern, and Charles and Tricia McGovern; a daughter and son-in-law Jayne and Dan Polveri; four stepsons and three step daughters-in-law George and Diane Hunt, Richard and Lori Hunt, John and Christine Hunt, and Kevin Hunt; a stepdaughter and step son-in-law Brenda and Michael Guilmette; fifteen grandchildren Krystal Gauthier, Rachel, Brittany, and George Hunt, Reaghan, Patrick, and Ryan Hunt, Lisa and Laura McGovern, Patrick, Elizabeth, and Katelyn McGovern, Finn Thomas McGovern, and Mark and Daniel Polveri; his nephew Robert Coakley and family; and his many golf buddies. He will be missed by all.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Wednesday from 4 until 8pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial in Gibson Cemetery, Pelham, NH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell, PO Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853 or to the Lowell General Cancer Center, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
