Lucien G. Robitaille 83, of Vine St. died Saturday evening at home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Aucoin) Robitaille.
He was born in Woonsocket a son of the late Henry and Alea (Richard ) Robitaille.
Mr. Robitaille was a 1942 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy. He briefly attended RISD before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. After graduating from officer training at Norwich University, he began flight training at Shaw Field, S. Carolina. Due to his fluency in French and his proficiency at flying, he was selected as a flight instructor for the French Resistance. At the end of WWII, Lucien flew at Hanscom AFB in the AAC version of the USAF Thunderbirds.
Mr. Robitaille was a sales manager at Electric Maintenance and at McCarthy’s for many years before its final closing. Mr. Robitaille was a self employed real estate agent for more than a decade before retiring in 1985.
Lucien and Evelyn Robitaille celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997 with their children and grandchildren. Evelyn was the love of his life.
Mr. Robitaille is survived by a son Robert Robitaille of Westford MA, a daughter Diane Hemond of Wellsley, MA, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was also a brother of the late Henri Robitaille, and the late Doris Dagesse.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home 463 South Main St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at All Saints Church Rathbun St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Blackstone.
