Dorothy A. (Whittemore) Rice, 90, of Marion died Sunday January 7, 2007 at Sippican Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Ellsworth E. Rice; they had been married for 60 years.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Frederick and Linda (Currie) Whittemore, she lived in Milton, Pembroke, and South Dennis before moving to Mattapoisett and Marion in 2000.
She was a member of South Dennis Congregational Church.
Mrs. Rice was formerly employed as a school teacher at Hanover High School for 21 years.
She was a member of the South Dennis Garden Club. She received her Bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State College and Master's degree from Northeastern University.
Survivors include two sons, Curtis Rice, and his wife Mary, of Cumberland, ME, and Jeffrey Rice, and his wife Marea, Saunderstown, RI; two daughters, Dorelle Zahn, and her husband Gary, of Mattapoisett, and Lucinda Schwartz, and her husband Jim, of Amherst, NH; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Alta Rice.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 AM prior to the service.
