John Madden Mullen, a prominent attorney in Boston and New Hampshire died on Saturday, January 6th at his home in Newton. He was 95 years old. Born in Manchester NH, Mr. Mullen attended Saint Anselm’s College and earned a B.A. Degree from the University of Montreal in 1933. He studied at George Washington University and earned a M.A. in 1937 from Catholic University of America. Mr. Mullen was granted a Law Degree from Georgetown Law School in 1943. Mr. Mullen was admitted to the bar in 1945 was a member of the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Bar Associations for more than 50 years. He had served for many years as Special Counsel to the Massachusetts State Senate. In his earlier years as a lawyer, Mr. Mullen was a member of a variety of organizations: Adjunct Professor, Boston College Law School 1948-1949; Associate, Ropes, Gray, Best, Coolidge & Rugg, 1945-1950; Weston, Patrick and Church 1957-1969. Member, Civil Procedure Committee, 1968-1974 and Secretary, Advisory Committee on Civil Procedure, 1969-1974, Massachusetts Judicial Conference.
The beloved husband for 46 years of Katherine T. (Cotter), he was the dear father of Katherine E. Mullen J.D. and her husband John McDonagh of Queens, NY, Mary P. Mullen MD and her husband Harold J. Burstein MD of Wellesley and Elizabeth A. Mullen MD and her husband Stephen J. Wukitch PhD of Needham. Brother of Marguerite Fitzgerald of Manchester NH and the late Walter, Bernard, and Paul Mullen and Mary Gagnon. Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Madden, Ellen, Katherine, Abigail, Caleigh and Chloe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, Newton Upper Falls on Wednesday January 10 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham
