Walter T. Murphy, 93 of Medway died January 2 in the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham. He was the husband of Catherine (McCarthy) Murphy for the past 66 years.
Born in Worcester, December 18, 1913 the son of the late John M. and Irma (Jones) Murphy, Mr. Murphy was raised in Uxbridge and had lived in Medway for the past 66 years.
Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Uxbridge High School where he was captain of the Basketball team. He attended Suffolk University and was a graduate of Burdett College.
Mr. Murphy had been a line tester for the Verizon Company for 39 years before retiring.
He was an excellent golfer and a longtime member of the Whitinsville Country Club where he won several Club championships over the years.
He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and past president of the William Denver Chapter.
Mr. Murphy was also a longtime communicant of St .Joseph Church in Medway.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Catherine Canon and her husband, Roger of Brattleboro, Vermont, Geraldine Wright and her husband, Jeryl of Camillus, New York, Mary Jane Simpson and her husband, Wayne of Millis and a son, John Murphy and his wife, Joanne of Monroe, Conn.
He is also survived by his sisters, Avis Keating of Jamaica Plain, Geraldine Foley of Peace Dale RI and Claire Aussant of Whitinsville and his grandchildren, Stephen, Christopher, Leslie, Michael, Colleen, Karyn and Brian.
He was the brother of the late Hazel Willard.
His funeral will be held on Saturday January 6 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Village St. in Medway at 10:00. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m.
