Joseph A. Scarlett
...former Tewksbury resident; 96
WOLFBORO, NH - Joseph A. Scarlett, age 96, a former Tewksbury resident, died Monday,
January 1 at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, NH, after a long period of declining
health. He was the husband for 63 years of Luella M. (Cork) Scarlett, who died on March 15,
1996.
Mr. Scarlett was born in Lowell, on March 12, 1910, a son of the late Edmond and Marjorie
(Pierce) Forget. He was raised in Tewksbury, but lived in Malden for 55 years, before returning
to Tewksbury in 1991. He moved to Wolfboro, NH, seven years ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
In his earlier years, he served in the Massachusetts National Guard in Lowell and Boston, as a
member of the 182nd Infantry.
He retired from the Malden Public School system as the department head of custodians.
As a resident of Tewksbury, he was active in the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Lowell.
He is survived by four children, Richard Scarlett and his wife Evelyn (Smith) of Wilbraham, MA,
Priscilla King and her husband Ralph of Wolfboro, NH, James Scarlett and his wife Beverly
(Grover) of Cotuit, Cape Cod, and Michael Scarlett of Wolfboro; a brother, Walter Forget of
Lowell; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Elizabeth Forget and father-in-law of the late Priscilla (Fenton)
Scarlett.

His Funeral Service was held Friday, Jan. 5 in the funeral home. Following
cremation, burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials to the
Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 will be appreciated.
