James H. Biggar, 71, of Atkinson, NH died suddenly December 30, 2006 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA. His death comes as a huge shock to his family, as he has never suffered from any major illness. He was born in Mars Hill, ME on July 17, 1935, a son of the late Guy Walter and Alice Irene (Kennedy) Biggar. Raised in Mars Hill, he later received a BA in psychology from Gordon College. He has resided in Atkinson for 43 years. A specialist in contract administration, he worked for Sanders Lockheed Corp in the Manchester, NH office for 20 years and also for Frequency Sources Co. of Chelmsford, MA. He was later employed in production at Malden Mills and Schneider Automation of North Andover, MA prior to his retirement in 2002. Mr. Biggar was a dedicated member of the Trinity Bible/Christian Fellowship Baptist Church of Londonderry, NH. He served the church in many capacities, from choir member to serving as a Deacon and volunteer maintenance man. He will be remembered most for his willingness to serve others in their time of need, whether it be his family, neighbors, or widows older than himself in the community. No job was too big, no job beneath him, if someone needed him, he was there. He lived an exemplary life that could only have been made possible by his love for God and the indwelling of his Spirit. He showed his love not only in word but also in deed.
Family members include his wife of 49 years, Jean (Miller) Biggar of Atkinson; a daughter, Carol Layne and her husband Gary of Marietta, GA; three sons, James Biggar Jr. and his wife Michele of Oscoda, MI, Mark Biggar and his wife Deborah of Haverhill, MA and Scott Biggar and his wife Genelle of Fredericksburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Michelle Biggar, Mark Biggar Jr., Michael Biggar, Christopher Biggar, Jennifer Malesky, Jacob Biggar, Victoria Layne and Benjamin Layne; three sisters, Georgia Shaw of CA, Carolyn Hunter of Fayetteville, NC and Marcia Sergeson of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; two brothers, Raymond Biggar of Manchester by the Sea, MA and Robert Biggar of Decatur, GA; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM in the Peabody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A funeral ceremony was held on Thursday at 10 AM in the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 5 Rockingham Rd., Londonderry, NH. Private burial was in Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill, MA.
