Betty Margaret Herd, an 13 year resident of Melrose and former 50 year resident of Wakefield, died on Friday, December 29, 2006, at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading following a lengthy illness. She was 79 years old.
Betty was born on Long Island, New York, on December 15, 1927. She grew up on Long Island where she attended public schools there. She moved to Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1946. She worked for several years as a clerk for an insurance company.
Betty is the beloved daughter of the late James M. and Joan (Mathieson) Herd. Betty is the dear friend of Jacqueline Maher of Wakefield and many residents of The McCarthy Building in Melrose.
Betty's Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park on Lake Avenue in Peabody.
