FALL RIVER-Philip Mosher Hawes, 90 years old, husband of the late Effa (Peggy) Moore Hawes died on December 27, 2006, in Charlton Hospital, Fall River.
Philip was born in Dartmouth and lived most of his life in New Bedford. Philip and Peggy were married for 59 years.
During WW II, Philip participated in the European and African theaters. His unit the 2nd Armored Division was in Normandy, Algeria French Morocco and they marched to Berlin.
Philip was decorated with a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 1 bronze arrowhead, a Silver Star Metal with 1 oak leaf cluster, a Bronze Star Metal, an American Defense Metal and the Purple Heart while in the service. He Continued in the Army Reserves for many years and had a dicharge rank of Lt. Colonel.
In 1937, Philip graduated from Norwich University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Calvary at Norwich. Philip also earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Philip worked at Hawes Electric Company, a family owned electrical contrating business for more than 40 years until his retirement.
He was an avid reader of western mysteries, business and finacial literature. Philip and Peggy enjoyed traveling around the world, experiencing a variety of cultures. Philip truly enjoyed the Patriots and Red Sox games and golf tournaments.
Philip was a former trustee of the Greater New Bedford Industrial Foundation, holding treasurer and assistant treasurer positions. He was on the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of New Bedford for may years. Philip was also a dedicated member of the Investment Club.
Philip is survived by a son, Philip and his wife, Elena Hawes of New Orleans, La. and son Peter and his wife, Sheila Hawes of New Bedford. He has four grandchildren, Claudia Hawes of Ca, David Hawes, Kimberly Hawes, and Sarah Hawes of New Bedford; a great grandchild, Rey Hawes of Ca; his sister Marjorie Hall and her husband Ralph of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Hawes.

His funeral will take place on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford, Ma.
