THOMPSON, CT. – Frederick A. Hazzard, 75, of 464 Quaddick Town Farm Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Margarete “Doris” Hazzard; three sons, Morten J. Hazzard and his wife Terri of Belchertown, MA, Michael D. Hazzard of Webster, MA, and Mark S. Hazzard and his wife Tabatha of Thompson; four siblings, Irene Selfridge and her husband Earl of Westford, MA, George Hazzard and his wife Helen of Wrenchal, MN, Carl Hazzard of North Oxford, MA, and Deborah Masters of Oxford, MA; 5 grandchildren, Corey, Traci, Mark F., Ryan and Amanda Hazzard; nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester and raised in Oxford, the son of John and Phyllis (James) Hazzard, Sr. He moved to Thompson in 1971.
He was an Army veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Mr. Hazzard first served in the Army for 21 years until 1971. Following his retirement from the military, he was a sheet metal mechanic at Webster Sheet Metal in Webster and then at General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation in Quanset Point, RI, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Thompson Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee.
He was a member and Past Master of the Cornerstone-Quinebaug Lodge of A.F & A.M. #122 as well as a past Associate Grand Marshal of Connecticut and a member of the Shriners. He was a volunteer for the East Thompson Fire Department. He was once a constable for the Town of Thompson and held a membership in the New England Association of Chiefs of Police. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
The funeral, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, MA. Calling hours are from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Monday, Jan. 1, in the funeral home. The Masons will perform their ritual at 5:00 PM. The family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Thompson Congregational Church, PO Box 308, Thompson, CT 06277.
