Muriel C. MacLellan, of Anna Maria Island, FL and Duxbury, MA, formerly of Hanson, wife of the late James A. MacLellan and beloved mother of Sandra L. Ferreira of Duxbury, MA and the late Norma F. Pittsley died peacefully in her sleep at her daughter’s home on Thursday, December 21, 2006. She would have been 97 on Christmas Day.
Muriel was a nurse’s assistant and was one of the first nurses to work at the Plymouth County Hospital in Hanson when it was a TB Hospital. She also later worked at at the Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL. In her younger years she was also a cranberry screener at the Ocean Spray plant when it was located in Hanson, MA.
When her girls were young, Muriel was active as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Island Baptist Church in Anna Maria, FL where she lived for 40 years.
In addition to her daughter, she leaves eight grandchildren, James Beaton of Ohio, William Beaton of NJ, Jeffrey Beaton of VA, Muriel Ellis of Carver, Lori Hamilton of Middleboro, Michael Ferreira of Plymouth, Bruce Ferreira of FL and Kathy Ferreira of Randolph as well as 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Cr., Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 10 o’clock at the Safe Harbor Foursquare Church, 52 Main Street, Marshfield, MA.
