Pauline A. "Poppy" (Andrews) Collins, 81, of Mattapoisett died December 27, 2006 peacefully at The Oaks Nursing Home in New Bedford.
Born in Mattapoisett, the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Beatrice (Monteiro-Faria) Andrews, she lived in Mattapoisett all of her life.
She was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.
Mrs. Collins was formerly employed as a nurses aide in the pre-op and surgical holding area at St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement in 1986.
A very gregarious and effervescent person, Poppy loved art, music and daily dining with her sister. The center of all family gatherings... what she loved most of all was her family and friends.
Survivors include 3 children, Janis Andrews Johnson of Mattapoisett, Peter W. Collins of Fairhaven and William H. Collins, Jr., and his wife Ruth Ann, of Moorpark, CA; a sister, Blanche Perry of Mattapoisett; 2 brothers, Joseph Andrews, and his wife Edith, of Dartmouth and Roy Andrews, and his wife Catherine, of Mattapoisett; 4 grandchildren, Cynthia Andrews Johnson, Andrew E. Collins, Christopher H. Collins and Heather L. Collins; a great-nephew Spencer L. Barros; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless friends throughout the community of Mattapoisett.
She was the sister of the late Marjorie Payne, Mildred Barros and David Andrews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Tuesday, January 2nd at 9 AM followed by her Funeral Service in Wickendon Chapel, Marion at 10 AM. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Monday, January 1st from 2-6 PM.
