Sister Dorothy Fullam (Formerly Sister M. Emmanuel), 88, a Sister of Mercy for 70 years died Friday, October 4, 2002, at the Sisters of Mercy Warde Health Center in Windham, NH after a brief illness. A native of Portsmouth, NH she was the daughter of James T. and Catherina A. (Quinlan) Fullam.
Sister Dorothy received a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Mt. St. Mary College in Hooksett, NH and a master’s degree in business administration from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, NH. She pursued further studies at Boston College, Boston University, the University of New Hampshire, the Catholic University of America, and Fordham University.
Sister Dorothy taught at elementary schools in Berlin, Claremont, Concord, Manchester, and Somersworth, NH. She is best remembered as a teacher of business subjects in high schools and colleges. She taught at St. Mary High School, Dover; and St. Mary High School, Claremont, all in New Hampshire, as well as St. Ann High School in Gloucester, MA. She was also a business teacher at Castle Secretarial School in Windham, NH.
For 20 years, Sister Dorothy was a business instructor in the New Hampshire Vocational/Technical Colleges, first in Berlin then in Stratham. After retiring from teaching, Sister Dorothy did volunteer work at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Hampton, NH.
Family members include a sister, Ms. Margaret A. Fullam on Manassas, Virginia and several cousins.
Friends may call at the Sisters of Mercy Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, October 7. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Sisters of Mercy in Windham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 8, at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087-1297.
