Attorney Alfonso M. D´Apuzzo “Tootsie”, a long-time labor lawyer and disabled World War II veteran, died peacefully at home, in the company of his loving family. He was 85.
Born in Boston and raised in Medford, Alfonso was the son of the late Nicola and the late Jennie (Basile) D´Apuzzo. Alfonso graduated Saint Clement High School and went on to Suffolk University. After two years in college he joined the US Army Air Force after war broke out. A veteran of 35 air missions with the 1077th Air Force, he served in air offensive operations in Europe including Normany and Northern France. He was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he finshed Suffolk University and went on to Suffolk Law School. After admission to the Bar, he had a partnership of Shannon and D’Apuzzo. He also developed a long career as a labor lawyer serving on the Massachusetts Labor Relations Board. He also served as an arbitrator as a member of the American Arbitration Association.
Alfonso was a member of the Medford Elks, Medford ITAM Post, Justinian Law Society and the Mass. Bar Association.
He was the beloved husband of Mary (Stuart) D’Apuzzo. He was a devoted father of Denise Maggio and her husband Joseph of Center Conway, NH, Jody Quinn and her husband Edward of Billerica, Michele Conroy and her husband John of Londonderry, NH. He was a loving and adored grandfather to Justin and Shara Conroy and Megan and Brendan Quinn. He was a loving brother to Irene D'Apuzzo of Medford the late Marie Staffier and John D’Apuzzo.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
