Giovanni M. "John" DeVita, 68 of Somerville, died Monday after a long illness in the Somerville Hospital Somerville, MA.
Born in Italy, he lived in Somerville since 1976 and was the son of the late Nice (Scarpelli) and Antonio DeVita. Giovanni has worked since arriving in this country in 1955. He has worked for Schraffts, Revere Sugar, Karas & Karas, and retired in 1999 from PMP Metallics in Peabody.
Beloved husband of Maria (Scarpelli) DeVita. Devoted father of Rosetta Burns of Wakefield, Anthony and Bernice DeVita both of Somerville. Brother of Pietro DeVita of Somerville, Elena Carravetta, Maria Greco both of Chicago, IL, Rosetta DeVita, Adeline Scarpelli, Mario DeVita all of Medford, and the late Michael DeVita. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday 4 - 8.
Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
