Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Ross Jr., a 50 year Stoughton resident, passed away after a short illness, on Sunday December 24, 2006 in the Copley At Stoughton Nursing Facility. He was 81 years old. He was the beloved husband of fifty-eight years to Sonia (Tkachuk) Ross.

Born April 2, 1925 in South Easton, Massachusetts, he was the cherished son of the late Benjamin Franklin Ross Sr. and Ruth Mae (Wilbur). He attended Brighton Public Schools and was a graduate of Brighton High School.

Mr. Ross was drafted out of high school by the United States Army and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant where he was a proud member of Company C, 91st Medical Treatment Battalion. Sgt. Ross saw military action in the Battle Of Normandy in Northern France and in Rhineland , Ariennes in Central Europe. He was the proud recipient of the Victory Medal, The European African MiddleEastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and The Good Conduct Medal.

After serving his country and returning home, Mr. Ross attended The Wentworth Institute Of Technology in Boston and received an Associates In Science Degree in Engineering and later attended and graduated from Northeastern University also in Boston, with a Bachelor’s Of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering.

He was employed as an Engineer by The Massachusetts Institute Of Technology in Boston , Draper Labs in Cambridge and Thermo Electron in Waltham early on in his working career. He later was gainfully employed by The Raytheon Corporation and retired after 15 very productive years as an Electronic Engineer.

Mr. Ross was a member and attended The First Congregational Church Of Stoughton, United Church Of Christ. He enjoyed Gardening, Stamp Collecting and Coin Collecting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen W. Ross of Rockland, Gary F. Ross of Stoughton, David C. Ross of Brockton, Alan D. Ross of Stoughton and Anne B. Gudinas and her husband Paul of Middleboro. He is also survived by his sister Roberta Paramore of Washington State, his two sisters-in-law, Vera Doucot of Carver and Lola Kelley of Swampscott and also several nieces and nephews. He was also a brother to the late Helen Lainey, Ruth Rowan and Mary Martin.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday December 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. The Reverend John Baillie, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.

There will be a visiting hour prior to the service from 10 - 11:00 A.M.
