TEWKSBURY: Esther Marie (Johnson) French, age 87, a resident of Tewksbury for more than 50 years, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord, following a brief illness.
She was the wife of Gilbert E. French, who died October 18, 1996.
Born in Lowell, on September 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ragnar and Bina (Swensen) Johnson.
Mrs. French was raised in Lowell.
She attended Lowell schools and was graduated from Lowell High School.
Mrs. French dedicated her life to caring for her family.
She was a member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church, where she participated with the Ladies Aid Group.
Mrs. French enjoyed many activities including, oil painting, sewing, listening to music, quilting and knitting afghan blankets for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Carol F. Howland and her husband John H. Howland of North Kingstown, RI, Jean E. French and her husband David S. Green, M.D. of Boston and Ronald G. French of Wilton, CT; eight grandchildren; Jessica d’Entremont and her husband Jeffrey, Graham Howland and his wife Shirin, Michael Green, Sarah Glovsky, Abigail Glovsky, Alexander Green, Eric and Ryan French; two great grandchildren; Benjamin and Nicholas d’Entremont; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. French was the mother-in-law of the late Sherrill (Bray) French and sister of the late Evelyn M. Johnson, Ralph B. and Harry T. Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 29th, at 1 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Interment will follow at the Tewksbury Cemetery. At the request of the family there are No Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Sherry French Memorial Fund, c/o Wilton Congregational Church, 70 Ridgefield Rd., Wilton, CT 06897 are requested.
