Obituary

Robert E. West, age 71, of Salem, NH, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, MA. He had lived in Salem for over 40 years.

He was born in Leavenworth, IN the son of the late Mary (Walden) and Girtie West. Robert graduated from Valley High School in Valley Station, KY in 1954. He was a US Navy veteran from 1955-1958, serving on the USS Grand Canyon AD28 and was also stationed at the Navy Communictions Station Port in Lyautey, Morocco.

Robert retired from Frostar Cold Storage after 23 years of service as manager. He was previously employed by Viking Seafood in Malden, MA for 18 years as warehouse supervisor.

Robert was happily married and enjoyed raising his family in Salem where he was involved in many community organizations including Salem Band Parents and played Santa Claus for Coca Cola and various masonic lodges. He was a member and Past master of Spicket Lodge #85 F & AM of Salem, NH, a member and Past Master of Pulpit Lodge #103 F & AM of Pelham, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Nashua, a member of Bektash Shriners of Concord, NH and a member of the Order Eastern Star Chapter 57 of Salem, NH. He was an avid camper and greatly enjoyed spending time with his 7 grandchildren and countless friends. He was a leader in every way and was loved by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his brothers William and James West.

He is survived by his wife Ann (Salesi) West of Salem, NH

Calling hours will be held Friday, Dec. 22 from 4-8 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. A Masonic Service will be held at 7PM.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 23 at 11 AM at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
