Obituary

Ida Castagnetti a long-time Medford resident died Wednesday morning, surrounded by her loving family, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was 82.


Born and raised in Monastero di Morfasso, Piacenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Domenico and Marianna (Grandi) Castagnetti. Ida came to the United States soon after her marriage to Abelardo “Bill” Castagnetti. The couple settled in Boston’s North End in 1949 where Ida worked as a seamstress. Ida soon dedicated herself to raising her two children and caring for the needs of her family. A Medford resident since 1955, Ida was also a devoted member of Saint Joseph Parish.


She was the beloved wife of the late Abelardo “Bill” Castagnetti. She was a devoted mother to Andrew P. Castagnetti and his wife Theresa of Medford, Linda Butler and her husband Charles of Danvers. She was the cherished grandmother of Christina M. Butler and Andrew L. Castagnetti. She was the dear sister of Remo Castagnetti of Medford, Pina Silva of Montreal, the late Severino, Candida, Remo, Maria, Irma and Maria.


Her Funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass offered in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting Hours Friday 4 thru 8.
