Chloe Howell Duncan, 89, of Tifton (formerly of Irwinville) died Wednesday, December 20 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, December 23, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Dr. W. Wayne Roe and Rev. Richard Goff officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Ms. Duncan was born Clarace Clothilde on December 31, 1916, in Crisp County to the late Bartow C. and Lydia Wright Howell. She was a 1933 graduate of Rebecca High School, where she played basketball. She moved to Tifton 2002 from Irwinville and was a former resident of Buckhead, Sandy Springs and Atlanta. Ms. Duncan attended St. Joseph Hospital Nursing School. She was a former clerk for an insurance company in Atlanta and worked as a program assistant for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1982. Ms. Duncan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Oglethorpe Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Atlanta.
Ms. Duncan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Carl & Jerry Duncan of Tifton; grandchildren: Lindsey Duncan, Julie & James T. Cristello, all of Tifton. Cheryl & Clay Alberson of Sycamore; great-grandsons: Cameron Duncan, Clint Adcock & Joseph & Jay Alberson; only great-granddaughter who was named after her: Chloe Adcock; brothers and sisters: Earl Howell of Irwinville, John Bailey of Rockledge, Lucy Jarman of Jefferson and Frances Wynelle “Wynie” Howell of Tifton; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters, Pauline Story, Lilla Mae Howell, Woodrow Howell and Lillian Booth.
