Obituary

George E. Whittie, age 63, a longtime resident of Woburn formerly of Portsmouth, NH, died Wednesday, December 20th following a lengthy illness. Born in Boston he was the son of the late George D. and Catherine (Pender) Whittie.

Mr. Whittie was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire where he earned his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. George worked for many years as a civil engineer most recently serving as the City of Watertown City Engineer for six years prior to his retirement last December. Mr. Whittie also served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. George was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed being a backyard mechanic and was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of Woburn´s American Legion Post 101 and was an active parishioner of St. Charles Church.

Mr. Whittie is survived by his daughters, Catherine “Katie” Whittie, Lori (Walker) Jerram and her husband Corey all of Woburn, Rebecca (Walker) Wareing and her husband Richard of Hartford, CT. George is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Nathan and Hannah Jerram and is further survived by loving family members, Dana Whittie, Mary Nohelty, Danny and Maria Rogan.

His funeral will be from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church 280 Main St. Woburn, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George’s memory to the VNA Care Network, Inc. Development Office, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923-3687.
