LOWELL—Alice (Mahoney) Duggan, 86 years old, a resident of Lowell, and former resident of California and Florida, died Wednesday morning, December 20th, at the Wingate Nursing Home, in Lowell. She was the beloved wife of Joseph T. Duggan, with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage this year.
She was born in Lowell on August 5, 1920, a daughter of the late Leon F. and Lillian (Kennedy) Mahoney. She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High School, Class of 1938, where she was a Girl Officer. She graduated from Lowell Commercial College and Northeastern University.
Mrs. Duggan had been employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and attained the rank of Deputy Superintendent at the Framingham Reformatory for Women. She lived in Florida from 1964 until 2004, and then returned to Lowell.
She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross at Cushing Hospital with the Veterans during World War II. She belonged to the Ladies of Ransom; and taught C.C.D. in California and Florida. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband. They visited over 17 foreign countries as well as 49 U.S. States, and voyaged around the globe on a cruise ship.
Surviving her besides her husband are a brother: Retired Cmdr. Adm. George Raymond Mahoney, and his wife Jane, of Mobile, AL; sister-in-law: Josephine Duggan, of Lowell; and brother-in-law: Dave Crowley, of Dracut. Among her many nieces and nephews are: Judy Kirane, of Lowell; and Sheila Emerson, of Lowell; also several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was the sister of the late Leon Mahoney, Jr.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, December 22nd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her funeral service to follow at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial in the Lowell Cemetery. Please omit flowers; donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
