Obituary

DANVERS - Elizabeth (Harris) Skalkos, 88, wife of the late Frank Skalkos, of Danvers, formerly of Peabody and Lynn, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home, Danvers, following a long illness.

Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Sdoucos) Harris.

Mrs. Skalkos came to Peabody as a child . She was raised and educated there and graduated as Valedictorian at Peabody High School in the class of 1939. She then attended Salem State College, taking accounting & other business courses. After her marriage, she lived in Lynn for over 20 years before moving to Danvers in the late 1960's.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as comptroller for 25 years at Empire Clothing Company in Salem.

She was a member of St. George Philoptochos Ladies Society of Lynn and the Order of Eastern Star.

An accomplished chef and baker & known for her cookies and pies; original recipes which originated from her parents, who were cofounders of both the former "Elisabeth’s" Restaurant on Essex Street and the former "Candy Kitchen" on Lafayette Street, both in Salem.

Her hobbies included oil painting; gardening, as she loved flowers; and the weaving of oriental rugs.

Mrs Skalkos is survived by one son, Stratford Skalkos of East Hampton, NY and several cousins including Mrs. Georgia Sdoucos & Ms. Bessie Karanikolas, both of Salem, Ms. Olympia Manos of Swampscott, Mrs. Doris Kakouris of Coral Cables, FL, Mrs Irene Bougas, Ms. Zoe Niquette, both of Danvers, Mr. John Sdoucos of Harwich, Mrs. Anastasia Skinner of Escondido, CA and Mrs Barbara Foley & Mr. Peter Skalkos of Garden City, NY. She was predeceased by a son, William Skalkos..

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral service at 10 am at the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
