TEWKSBURY: Anthony J. Rock, a resident of Tewksbury since 2005, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Blaire House of Tewksbury.
He was the husband of Mary J. (Bell) Rock, who died July 8, 2006.
Born in Boston on August 4, 1917, he was the son of the late Anthony T. and Margaret (Caufield) Rock.
Mr. Rock was raised in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston.
He attended Jamaica Plain schools and was graduated from Jamaica Plain High School.
In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mr. Rock served during World War II. He was awarded several decorations including the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Battle star, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with One Battle Star, and the Driver and Mechanic Award with Driver W Bar.
Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed for 30 years as a firefighter for the City of Boston.
Mr. Rock resided in Milton, the Roslindale area of Boston and Manomet until moving to Tewksbury a year ago.
He was a member of the Dedham V.F.W. Post # 2056.
Mr. Rock is survived by three daughters; Nancy P. Daly and her husband Paul of Tewksbury, Teresa L. Jordan and her husband Robert of Orleans and Diane M. Rock of Steubenville, OH; two sons; William A. Rock and his wife Clara of Orleans and Michael J. Rock and his partner Alex Yactayo of Boston; four grandchildren; Renee’ and Coleen Daly both of Tewksbury and William and Anthony Rock both of Orleans; one sister; Eileen Gray and her husband Patrick of Norwood; many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rock was the brother of the late Beatrice Stack, Mary Gillis and Edward Rock.
Calling hours Tuesday, December 19th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Wednesday, December 20th, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., at the Massachusetts V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Please meet at cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
