Obituary

Maria D. (Cortese) Tompkins, age 42 of Woburn MA, died Thursday in her home following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Tompkins was born in Somerville, MA, the daughter of Salvatore Cortese of East Boston and Roseann Cortese-Daykin of Medford. Maria is the beloved wife of twenty-five years to William F. “Skip” Tompkins Jr. She was a resident of Woburn for the past four years formerly of Medford. Maria grew up in Medford and was a 1978 graduate of Medford High School. She worked for many years with the Harvard University Dining Services but her primary job was being a traveling mom, taking her five children to all of thier sporting events and other activities. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Maria´s memory to Hallmark Health Hospice 100 Hospital Rd. Malden, MA 02148 or to the Special Olympics 450 Maple St. Building One, Danvers, MA 01923.

Surviving in addition to her husband Skip and her parents are five loving children, Christina, B.J., Stacey, Kimberly and John Tompkins all of Woburn. Her stepmother Rosemarie Cortese of East Boston. Mother-in-law, Joanne Tompkins of Medford and father-in-law William F. Tompkins Sr. of Salem, NH. Two sisters, Francesca A. Marchione of Stoneham, Grace Gillis of Medford and two brothers John Cortese of Stoneham and Louis Cortese of Billerica.

Her funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 10 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford/Somerville, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 5 thru 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
