Reta (Corkum) Wentzell, of Newton, a longtime active member of the United Methodist Church in Newton, died Thurs Dec 14, 2006 at Life Care Center in Billerica. She was 90.
Born in Middle La Have, Nova Scotia, Canada Mrs. Wentzell had lived in Newton for over 60 years. In the late 1940’ early 1950’s she was the owner of the Smart Beauty Shop on Washington St. in Newtonville. She later worked as a bookkeeper in the executive offices for Almy’s department store. She was treasurer of the Women’s Society of the United Methodist Church in Newton for many years. She was also a former member of the Newton Yacht Club and had been a member of the Senior Bowling League the Alleycats.
Wife of the late Ian H. Wentzell and mother of the late Lee J. Wentzell, she is survived by her son Lloyd C. Wentzell and his wife Sharon of Fitchburg, her daughter in law Linda Wentzell of Walpole, her grandchildren Lloyd C. Wentzell Jr. and his wife Terri, Daniel A. Wentzell and his wife Sandra, Christine Wentzell-Carruthers and her husband Scott, and David Wentzell and Alison Wentzell, and her great grandchildren Daniel I. Wentzell, Cassie R. Wentzell, Audrey L. Wentzell, Jeremy A. Wentzell.
A funeral service will be held on Tues Dec 19, 2006 at 10 AM in the United Methodist Church 430 Walnut St. Newtonville. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Mon from 4-8 PM.
