Roland N. “Pokey” Dion, 60, of Mansfield died on Friday December 15, 2006 in his home surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was the beloved husband of Joyce M.(Rondeau) Dion to whom he was wed to on September 12, 1969.
Born in Attleboro, MA on February 7, 1946 he was a dear son of Florence M. (Lavigne) Dion of Norton and the late Paul J. Dion, Sr.
He was raised and educated in Norton. He served in The United States Navy during the Vietnam Era for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of E-5.
Mr. Dion was a retired Laborer Forman. He had worked for the Walsh Contracting Corporation in Attleboro for 37 years before recently retiring. He was a member of the Laborer’s Local 876 in Taunton.
Pokey was a former member of the AMVETS in Norton. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who truly loved the outdoors. His loving and devoted family was a very special part of his life. He had lived in Mansfield for the past 35 years and was formerly of Norton.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 37 years and his dear mother he is survived by his devoted sons Kevin J. Dion and his wife Annette of Mansfield and Greg M. Dion also of Mansfield. His dear brothers and sisters; Shirley A. Pierce of Attleboro, Paul J. Dion, Jr. and his wife Martha of Norton, Phillip R. Dion of Norton, Carol A. McGee and her husband Stephen of North Attleboro, Florence J. Giliard of Bakersfield, California, Robert R. Dion and his wife Laurel of Pawtucket, R.I. and the late George E. Dion. His cherished granddaughters Jessica Haggerty and Brianna Dion. Also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Prayer services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday December 19th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in Stephen’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 18th from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
