Doris I. Peloquin 75 of Mt. Carmel Apartments, 50 Shrewsbury St. a retired educator, died unexpectedly on Sunday December 10, at her home.
She was born in Woonsocket on Gaulin Ave. in the Social District, a daughter of the late Armand and Marie Louise (Tellier) Peloquin. Doris graduated from St. Ann School, attended St. Claire High School and graduated from Our Lady of the Mountains Academy in Gorham, NH. in 1948. In 1962 she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree form Rivier College, Nashua, NH and a Master of Education Degree from the same institution in 1968. In 1980, she was awarded a Master of Divinity Degree from the Weston School of Theology, Cambridge, MA.
In 1949 Doris entered the religious order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Sister Doris taught in private and parochial Schools in New Hampshire and Rhode Island including the former St. Louis School, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School and Our Lady of Victories School, all in Woonsocket. A dedicated school teacher Sr. Doris was beloved and highly treasured by the thousands of school children she taught. From 1966 to 1972, she served as a faculty member of Rivier College. After her services of 33 years in the religious order she served as a unit secretary at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA until 1995.
She is survived by two sisters, Rita (Eugene) Godin who resides at Oakland Grove Health Care Center and Constance (Gerard) Blais all of Woonsocket, and two brothers Normand Peloquin who resides at St. Antoine Residence, and Eugene Peloquin both of N. Smithfield. She was predeceased by three brothers Gerald, Raymond, and Roger Peloquin. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews and countless cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday December 16th at 11:00 am. in All Saints Church Rathbun St. Woonsocket with a graveside service to follow at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham, MA. Following the internment all friends and relatives are invited to a reception in celebration of her life at the Coachmen’s Lodge 273 Wrentham Rd. Bellingham, MA.
Doris requested that calling hours be respectfully omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home.
