Naveta Pearl Walker of Needham died on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006. She was 92. She died after a very short illness at the Briarwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. At the end, Naveta was watched over by her two loving daughters and her grandson, Jay, and she was under the care of Dr. Elizabeth Handel and the VNA Hospice. The family wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of those who took such good care of Naveta in her last days. Mrs. Walker was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of the late Walter Davis and Ethel Jane (MacDonald) Hoag.
The family moved to Needham in 1925 and Mrs. Walker has lived in Needham ever since. She married Albert Edward Adcock of Newton in 1936 and two daughters, Carol Naveta Rivoire living in Nova Scotia, Canada and Sharon Jane Hebert of Needham. Both Carol and Sharon were born in Needham, and graduated from Needham High School as did their mother, Naveta. After 30 years of marriage, Naveta’s husband Albert Adcock died in 1966.
In 1987, Mrs. Walker married Leonard G. Walker of Needham. They were both 74 years old, and were extremely happy together until his death in August of 2004. Naveta’s passions were her daughters, her family, and the two men in her life, her husbands, Albert Adcock and Leonard Walker.
Naveta was a member of the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church since her family first moved to Needham from Canada. She was a member of the Wisteria Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer hospital aid at the former Glover memorial Hospital and worked for some years at Damon Corp. in Needham. After her marriage to Leonard Walker, who was an accomplished chef, the couple enjoyed dinners at home with friends, laying bridge, and listening to music. They also enjoyed their boat, The Epic, moored in Essex Harbor. Naveta and Leonard’s great romance began at the Needham Widows and Widowers Group.
Mrs. Walker was a special person, and will be deeply missed by her daughters and family members. She leaves her dear son-in-law, Arthur Rivoire of Nova Scotia, Canada. She leaves her much loved grandson, John Adcock Young (Jay) and his wife Catherine of Millville, MA and great grandchildren, Angela Rose Young and Nathan Frederick Smith of Florida. She also leaves her grandson, Alan Woodbury Young and three great grandchildren, Winston, Clayton and Victoria Young of Redwood City, CA Mrs. Walker leaves her stepson Donald Walker and his wife Suzanne of Sharon MA. She also leaves a niece, Betty MacDonald of Summerside Nova Scotia, Canada as well as a cherished nephew and his family, Ronald Hoag and his wife Holly and their three sons Wesley, Matthew and George Andrew Hoag of Grimesland, NC. A Memorial Service will be held at the Eaton funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Thursday December 28 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at need ham Cemetery. Following the interment a reception will be held at Mrs. Walker’s home at 91 Blake Street, Needham. In lieu of flowers donations in Naveta’s name may be made to VNA Care Network and Hospice, 175 Highland Avenue, Needham Ma 02494.
