Obituary

Merritt R. Clarke, 86, co-owner of the former William F. Miller Industrial Supplies Co. before retiring in 1984, died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy E. (Clark) Clarke.

Born in Providence, a son of Merrill and Stella (Burlingame) Clarke, he had lived at the Village at Waterman Lake in Smithfield previously living in North Providence and Providence.

Mr. Clarke was a Corporal with the 234th Army Air Corps during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Victory Medal. He was past president, manager, coach and member of the Mt. Pleasant Little League for 25 years. He was an avid stamp collector and baseball fan.

He is survived by his son, James Clarke and daughter-in-law, Nancy of Chepachet; a brother, Arnold Clarke of Warwick; a sister, Shirley Halben of Esmond; a cousin, Barbara Wennerstrom and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Saturday morning 8-10am in the *ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Funeral service will follow. Burial with military honors will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the RI Lions Sight Foundation, P.O. Box 19671, Johnston, RI 02919.
