Obituary

Laconia-Andrew John Dagoumas, 77, of 57 Union Avenue, formerly of Sanbornton, NH and Lowell, Massachusetts died Saturday afternoon, December 9th, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family after a well fought battle with cancer.

Andrew was the son of the late John and Catherine (Pappathis) Dagoumas. He was born in Lowell Massachusetts on September 14, 1929 where he was raised and schooled graduating from Lowell High School in 1950. Andrew had been a resident of Lowell and Dracut Massachusetts for most of his life moving to Sanbornton, NH in 1987, and then to Laconia, NH in 2005.

Prior to his retirement Andrew was employed by Sullivan Brothers Printers in Lowell, MA as a Compositor for 38 years.

Andrew was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War in which he received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1670 and the American Legion Post 1 in Laconia. He was also a life member of the DAV, and also the Combat Infantry Association #113; 2nd Infantry Division, and a life member of the Korean War Alliance. He was a member of the International Typographical Union. Andrew was a former coach with the Dracut Little League where he coached 58 consecutive wins with the Pirates. He was a former weight lifting champion, and a former member of Holy Trinity Church in Lowell, MA, now a member of Taxiarchi Greek Orthodox Church in Laconia.

Andrew spent many winters in Florida and Greece. He had many friends and acquaintances at the Belknap Mall, including many of the shopkeepers who he would provide with baked goods.

Andrew is predeceased by siblings, Chris Dagoumas, Anna Dagoumas, Effie Dagoumas, Andranickey Mamulas, and Joyce Kefaleas.

Andrew is survived by two sons, George Dagoumas and his wife Susan of Belmont, and Mark Dagoumas and his wife Elena of Laconia; three daughters, Catherine Sweeney and her husband Frank of Belmont, Joann Gouveia and her husband Mike of Belmont, and Kristine Sweeney and her fiancé Rick Page of Laconia; one brother, Costas Dagoumas and his wife Gloria of Lowell, MA; his former wife, Pauline (LaPierre) (Dagoumas) Patenaude and her husband Mike of Lowell, MA; 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews as well as several cousins in Greece also survive Andrew.

A Funeral Service was held Wednesday December 13th, 2006 at the Taxiarchi Greek Orthodox Church, 811 North Main Street Laconia at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors followed at 12:30 p.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3, Boscawen, NH. Visiting hours were Tuesday December 12th, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial, 139 Church Street, Laconia. Family and friends were invited to attend.
