Marie Christine Costa of Roslindale, Dec. 6, 2006, daughter of the late John J. and
Anna T. (Lupica) Costa, died peacefully at the Tippett Home Hospice in Needham after a courageous 30 year battle with breast cancer. She was a resident of Roslindale for the last six years, and previously lived in Manomet for more than 45 years. Marie attended schools in Boston and Plymouth. She worked for Rockland Trust Bank in both Plymouth, and later in Manomet as a Branch Manager. In 1993 Marie joined Putnam Investment Company in the Marketing Support Department, where she worked for 13 years.
Marie loved to travel . One of her favorite destinations was Aruba. She traveled there 19 times! Two of her most memorable trips were to Seattle/Vancouver Island and to Sicily. She inherited a passion for cooking, and a love of animals, from her mother, Anna.
Marie was a member of the Sicilian Association of Greater Boston. As a cancer survivor, she participated on several “Relay for Life” teams, and was a founding member of the Dana-Farber Patient and Family Advisory Council.
She is survived by her loving sister Roberta Gianferrari, of Stoddard, NH and brothers Donald Costa of Yarmouth,MA, and Richard Costa and wife Suzanne, of Brookline, MA; her nieces Maria Gianferrari and husband Niko, Elisa Gianferrari, and husband Michael, Nicole Vitkosky, and husband Billy, and her nephews Michael Gianferrari and wife Karen, Michael Costa and wife Cindy, and Sam Costa and wife, Maria. Marie adored her grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Cheverie, as well as her beloved grandnieces and nephews: Bailey and MacKenzie Costa, Anya Grigorieff, Ariel and Isabella Blechner, Aidan and goddaughter Brynn Elizabeth Gianferrari, and Francis Vitkosky.
Visitation will take place at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St.,West Roxbury on Sunday, December 10th from 4-8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Chrysostom Parish, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury, on Monday, December 11th at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Manomet Cemetery, State Road (Rte. 3A) in Manomet. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of St. John Chrysostom Parish (02132)
