Richard W. Smith of Mystic, passed away at Mystic Manor on Thursday, Dec. 7th.
He was born in Gardner, MA on March 29, 1925 the son of George & M. Huldah (Howe) Smith. He graduated from Fitchburg High Shool, Fitchburg MA with The Class of 1942 and from Boston University with The Class of 1950. He later served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. as a co-pilot in B-24's during World War II.
He was Vice President of Alpine Press, a text book manufacturer in the Boston area. He recently moved to Connecticut from New Hampshire where in his retirement he enjoyed skiing, golfing, and restoring antique cars.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte A. (Cate) Smith; his children, Carolyn C. Brochu of Lunenburg, MA, R. William Smith Jr. of Greenfield, MA and Cynthia S. Purcell of Mystic, and his grandchildren, Megann, Andrew, Joshua, Caitlyn, Courtney, and Colin.
A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic on Tuesday at 11am. There are no visiting hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Church, Mystic, St. Mark's Church, Highland St., Ashland, NH, or Campton Historical Society, Campton, NH 03223.
