Worcester- Leon "Leo" Sawicki 83 of 1050 Main Street died September 29th in Providence House Nursing Home, Millbury.
He was the husband of Adele (Meskinis) Sawicki who died in 1961. Mr. Sawicki is survived by two sons, Leonard Sawicki of Sutton and Bruce L Sawicki of Exeter New Hampshire. A brother Walter Sawicki of Holden, five grandchildren and two nieces. Another brother Stephen Sawicki of Worcester died in 1960.He was born in Worcester a son of Michael and Mary (Cikota) Sawicki and lived here all of his life. He attended the former High School of Commerce. During World War II, he served in Europe with the U.S. Army. Mr. Sawicki retired in 1966 following twenty years as a Furrier and owner of the former Leo's Fur Shop then on Foster Street. He later wroked for the former Gordon's Clothes Shop.
Mr. Sawicki was the owner and operator of the former Central Gym and was a trainer and manager of Boxers throughout central Mass. Many years ago, he was a professional boxer and attained the rank of Welterweight Champion of New England. He was a coach and trainer for the Mass. State Police boxing team and was also a trainer at Ionic Avenue Boy's Club.
