Obituary

WORCESTER__Matthew E. Saurusaitis, 81, of Worcester, died Sunday, November 26, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Florence (Rukstelis) Saurusaitis, two sons, Roger J. Saurusaitis of Worcester and Matthew Saurusaitis of Miami, FL. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Linjo. Matthew was born in Brooklyn, NY., a son of Matthew and Theresa (Stankus) Saurusaitis and lived in Worcester for most of his life.

Mr. Saurusaitis worked security for many companies in the area and also worked as a machinist at Crompton & Knowles Co., prior to its closing. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as a Sergeant in the European Theater including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Lithuanian War Veterans Organization. He was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, South Grafton. He graduated from St. Casimir School.

The funeral will be held on Thursday November 30 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling Street. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are private.
