So. Lawrence, MA – Mary (Gibbons) Stewart, 103 died Saturday December 2, 2006 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing & Restorative Center.
Born and educated in County Mayo, Ireland, Mary came to the United States at the age of 17. Mrs. Stewart spent the majority of her time as a homemaker and mother of 5 children.
Mary was a longtime communicant of Saint Patrick’s Church of South Lawrence, was a member of St. Patrick’s Ladies Sodality, and a 25 year volunteer for meals on wheels.
Mary is the last survivor of 10 children and very proud of her Irish heritage.
A resident of South Lawrence since 1941 she was the widow of Ernest L. Stewart who passed last February.
Survivors include daughter Marjorie Hunter of Westford, Ma., son William & wife Patricia Stewart of South Carolina, Donald E. & wife Joan M. Stewart of Methuen & son Raymond & wife Janice Stewart of Connecticut, 18 grandchildren, 40 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her daughter Vivian Lyons and son-inlaws James Hunter Arthur Lyons, grandson Michael Ernest Stewart and great granddaughter Alicia Joan Stewart.
A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock at Saint Patrick’s Church with burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Lawrence.
Friends may call from the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint Patrick’s Church 118 So. Broadway So. Lawrence, MA 01843, and Mary Immaculate Health Care Services Zero Bennington Street in Lawrence.
