Obituary

Joseph M. Roy 82, of Franklin, died Friday December 1, 2006 at his home, following a long illness. He was the husband of June C. (Stace) Roy.
Born in Somerville, June 10, 1924 a son of the late Joseph M. Roy Sr. and Lydia (LeBlanc) Roy, he lived in Franklin for more than 29 years.
He was raised and educated in Cambridge, where he lived for most of his life until moving to Franklin. Until his retirement in 1983, he worked as a steel fabricator for the West End Iron Works in North Cambridge.
During WW11 he served in the US Army Air Corps. He attained the rank of Private First Class, and was stationed in the European Theater. He was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, The WW11 Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.
He was a Past Grand Knight and member of Sacred Heart Council #1847 Knights of Columbus in Franklin, a Past Faithful Navigator and Member of the Edward Douglas White General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Attleboro. He was also a Past Commander and Life Member of the American Legion, and a Past Commander of VFW Post #7353 in Cambridge. He was also a member of the color guard for both the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Roy served the Town of Franklin as a school crossing guard for 5 years, and loved every day of it as much as he loved the children. He was active in little league baseball when he lived in Cambridge, and his hobbies and interest included, sports, woodworking, all classic movies especially John Wayne movies. He was an usher and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, and was a member of the Franklin Senior Citizens, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 55 years include 4 sons James M. Roy of Arlington, Virginia, Robert J. Roy of Baltimore, Maryland, Mark L. Roy of Millbrook, Alabama, and Joseph M. Roy Jr. of Franklin. 5 daughters Deborah A. Horn, Donna M. Kenyon, Diane E. Feltner and Lynda Callahan all of Ware, Ma., Joan C. Prisco of Revere. 4 sisters Virginia Galassi of Chelmsford, Ellen Stace of Hampstead, NH., Yvonne Hesketh of Somerville, and June Pollock of Summerville, South Carolina. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Iola Lavoie, Lucille Seward and Helen Roy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors on Monday December 4, 2006 at 8:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 9AM. Interment will follow in the family lot in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday December 3, 2006 from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
