LAUER, JOHN L. age 68 of Wilmington, NC formerly of Demarest, NJ died Monday November 27, 2006 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 3, 1937 in Teaneck, NJ to J. Henry and Wilma Lauer. John was raised in Hackensack, NJ and graduated from Hackensack High School. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and later earned a Masters Degree in Engineering Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. He was retired from Control Associates in NJ as a Senior Sales Engineer, and formerly worked with American Can Co. and Bailey Meter Co. in their Control Divisions. He served as President of A.S.M.E., New York Chapter, Vice President of Stevens Alumni Assoc., and Co- President of North Jersey Stevens Club. Locally in Wilmington he was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church where he served as a Lector, a member of the Evangelism, Finance and Endowment Committees, and a member of the Church Council. He served his community on the New Hanover County Library Board. In New Jersey he was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dumont for many years. John is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Evelyn Schmidt Lauer, They were residents in Demarest for 25 years, before retiring and moving to Wilmington, NC in 1997. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ann Moran, Dorothy Scott and Mary Kappeler and brother-in-law Paul Schmidt, cousins, Patricia Stark, Susan Korade Melton, Donald and Alan Lauer; one niece, seven nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place Monday 12 Noon at Volk Leber Funeral Home 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. Friends and family will be received on Monday from 10AM-12PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to St. Matthews Lutheran Church 612 S. College Road.
