Egilda D. “Jill” (DeAmicis) Witherell died on Sunday, November 26th at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. She was 84 years old. Born in Fall River, “Jill’ was the daughter of the late Gina (Arcesi) and Berardino DeAmicis. She had lived in Needham for over 40 years. She was a graduate of MIT Class of 1949. Mrs. Witherell had a long career as a radiological physicist. She was a staff member at the MIT radiation lab and the MIT Dynamic Analysis and control lab. As a radiological physicist at N.E. Deaconess Hospital Cancer Research Institute she worked training physicians in clinical use and physical aspect of radioisotopes (now known as nuclear medicine). Mrs. Witherell was responsible for the calibration of X-Ray equipment and worked with architects and hospitals on radiation protection requirements. At Newton Wellesley Hospital, Jill worked as a radiation Safety Officer and oversaw radiation protection for workers, patients and visitors. She was an Emeritus member of the American College of radiology and American Association of Physicists in Medicine. The beloved wife of the late Dana Grover Witherell, she was the dear sister of Clara Whitham and her husband Glenn of Wayland and Dora Garvey and her husband Laurence of Lakewood NJ. Sister in law of Edith Gimpell of Center Ossipee NH. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Needham Cemetery on Sat. December 9 at 11:00 AM. A Memorial service will be held the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills’ 309 Washington St Wellesley Hills on Saturday February 3, 2007. Relatives and friends are invited to attend both the graveside and memorial service.
