Myron W. Rekrut, 63, of Fanning Lane, Greenville, died suddenly at home on Wednesday, November 29, 2006. He was the beloved husband of Martha (Dixon) Rekrut, a retired social studies teacher and a valued member of the Providence Revolver Club. Myron was born in Providence, a son of the late Doris (Bulawka) Rekrut and the late Stephen E. Rekrut. He was a life-long Rhode Islander and had lived in Greenville for the past 31 years. Myron was a graduate of Rhode Island College, and through the years, added many individual college courses to his instructional and content expertise.
Myron taught social studies in Warwick for 30 years before his retirement in 1995. He taught initially at Lockwood Junior High School, transferred to Winman Junior High for a few years, and then moved up to the big folks at Toll Gate, where Myron was also a coach of the Mock Trial Team. He was a teacher’s teacher, cared about both his subject and his students, and was happiest when one of them would tell him, “Wow, Mr. Rekrut, I didn’t know history could be fun.”
A member of PRC since college, Myron was secretary-treasurer for more than 20 years, and, since his retirement, was responsible for the training of new members. He also was a life-long fisherman who believed in catch and release, fished in a wide range of Rhode Island waters, and spent a few weeks each summer in Maine. Myron was also a “car guy,” who kept up with the automobile industry and who could talk most other car guys into silence.
In addition to his wife, Myron leaves his step-mother, Nadia, of California, two brothers, Stephen of Warwick, and Alexander of California, and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30am in the *ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial is private. Visitation Sunday 1-4pm.
